Types of Gutter Damage

Visible Cracks or Splits

Small cracks in gutters may seem minor, but they can grow over time and cause leaks. Walk around your house and look closely at the gutter sections.

Sagging or Pulling Away From the Roof

If your gutters are drooping or separating from the fascia board, it usually means:

  • Loose or broken hangers
  • Water weight from clogs
  • Structural damage

Water Overflowing During Rain

During a heavy rain, watch your gutters. If water spills over the sides instead of flowing to the downspouts, it could mean:

  • Clogs
  • Improper slope
  • Damaged sections

Water Marks or Stains on the Siding

Streaks or stains on the exterior walls below the gutters suggest water isn’t being directed away properly.

Peeling Paint or Rust

Check for:

  • Rust spots (especially on metal gutters)
  • Bubbling or peeling paint
    These indicate long-term moisture exposure.

Pools of Water or Soil Erosion Near the Foundation

If you see puddles or washed-out soil around your home’s base, your gutters may be leaking or failing to direct water away.

Mildew or Mold Around the Roofline

Excess moisture from faulty gutters can cause mold growth on siding or under the roof edges.
